Keywords: Heat Pump Dehumidifier, Drying ABSTRACT A drying system was built in our labs incorporating a commercial, domestic heat pump dehumidifier with minimal modifications. The heat pump dehumidifier was a 2.33 kW machine with a single centrifugal fan and a secondary water-cooled condenser. The primary condenser and the evaporator in the HPD were located very close to each other, so that there was no by- pass possible between them. Drying experiments were carried out using apple slices placed in stacked trays. The presentation describes the drying kinetics, quality studies and the economical role of such drying systems.
